FRAMING THE VIEW
Tucked into the hillside and surrounded by towering gum trees, this project was never about reinventing the wheel, it was about honouring the surrounding landscape. This build aimed to serve more than just one purpose. It needed to reflect a deep connection to nature while also supporting intergenerational living.
This renovation was designed to provide a calm, comfortable and beautiful place for three generations to reside – somewhere private yet connected, practical yet peaceful. That vision of care and connection naturally aligned with the idea of drawing inspiration from the surrounding bushland. This wasn’t just about creating a secondary living space, it was about designing a home that could evolve with shifting family needs, while feeling truly embedded in its setting.
In all design facets, landscape led the way. The rich, earthy palette of the bush guided the choice of interiors – think warm timbers, deep greens and grounded, natural textures. Everything was selected to bring the outside in, creating a feeling of continuity and calm throughout the home.
A key part of this build was the superior window selection. The home sits high on a steep parcel of land, with the main living areas facing south, perfect for soaking in the views over the Royal National Park, but also directly exposed to fierce southerly winds. The windows needed to do more than just look good; they had to perform.
The high-performance windows protect against wind and water ingress, while still making the most of the incredible outlook. The black framed windows and doors were selected in a variety of sizes and styles, allowing the team flexibility to work with different spaces throughout the home. These windows frame the views like artwork and create strong connections between inside and out, all while standing up to the elements.
The windows also played a big role in shaping the home’s exterior look. Monument for the roof, walls and eaves was a thoughtful choice. One strong, cohesive colour elevates the look and settles the house quietly into the landscape. This build was about creating a safe, beautiful home, while staying true to a design philosophy that values connection to people, place and purpose.
