Against the Grain Building & Renovating Project 1
REVITALISING HISTORY
Coryong is a 1917 weatherboard cottage located within a heritage conservation zone of the Blue Mountains village of Leura. Against the Grain completed the restoration and extension of the original cottage comprising a light-filled open plan kitchen, dining and living space; laundry and mudroom; and a generous master bedroom with oversized ensuite and walk-in robe. New internal stairs provide access to a second lounge area in the converted attic space. Ample storage was created inside and under the home and a large tiled courtyard provides a connection to the established cool climate garden.
Period-correct design is continued in the new build, intergrating new and old. Restoration works on the heritage exterior include replacement window awnings, timber lining boards, balustrade, and Pacific teak decking boards custom milled to match the original. The construction honours the existing home while sensitively extending the floorplan for modern, living.
