FROM BLEAK TO CHIC

This exceptional project has masterfully transformed a damp and deteriorating historical gem into an opulent family home. In 2021, renovations began on the Bleak House heritage property, a house brimming with potential and fraught with challenges. After two and a half years of dedicated construction, the property has been restored to its former glory, seamlessly balancing modern elegance with old-world charm.

Many issues of damage and deterioration were of utmost importance to the success of this project. The property was plagued with extensive dampness issues, necessitating the removal of skirting boards for recovery and reinstallation 18 months later. The second storey, riddled with termite damage, compelled the team to introduce structural elements. Laminated veneer lumber beams were expertly installed alongside original joists, fortifying the home while maintaining its historical
aesthetics.

A newly designed extension was added, harmoniously connecting the old and the new. This addition, including two luxurious ensuites and a master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe, exudes warmth and sophistication with nostalgic marble tiles and period-sympathetic fixtures and fittings. The outdoor space received just as much attention as the indoors. Three sides of the home were rebuilt with red ironbark decking to provide year-round alfresco dining that links the indoor design to the natural landscape beyond.
