Glow Design Group Project 1

Making the most of its lush Woodend setting, this charismatic, award-winning home dubbed VILLAGE HOUSE was designed by Glow Design Group. Boasting many-gabled roofs and cleverly thought-out inter-connecting sections, an abundance of bold design elements come together to form a cosy, bespoke abode.

Spots of green peek through the wide pavers as they lead up to the compressed entryway. Entering through the stained-timber front door, this compression transforms into impressive high ceilings and an expansive open-plan design. The kitchen boasts a combination of crisp whites, amplified by the marble island bench, and the light timber extended seating area adjoining it. Moving into the lounge room, the stone fireplace establishes a captivating feature and adds a warming touch to the space

Taking into consideration the homeowners’ love for gardens and landscaping, tall windows and large glass doors across the back of the house provide access to the alfresco, garden and breath-taking views of the Mount Macedon Ranges, creating a seamless transition between the inside and outdoor areas. These double-glazed AWS windows are aptly north-facing to optimise the amount of sunlight they capture to keep the house naturally warm, and the thick black frames make a clean contrast against the prevailing whites.

The homeowners’ brief indicated a ranch-style house, and Glow Design Group delivered a Texan-inspired beauty, heralded by the barn-style garage door. The external Hardie Flex cladding produces a board and batten effect, creating shadow lines and expansion joints, which are hidden by the battens – a subtle visually-pleasing design choice.

Glow Design Group’s VILLAGE HOUSE collected several awards from Design Matters National in 2019. It was the Winner of the Residential Design: New House – $600K-$1M Construction Cost Award, Excellence in Use of Lightweight Materials Award, and the James Hardie Award.
