Gremmo Homes Project 11
This spectacular house by Gremmo Homes is nestled in the picturesque leafy suburb of Pearl Beach on the Central Coast of New South Wales. The design of the home takes every opportunity to capture the exquisite views across to scenic Lion Island and Broken Bay. From the open-plan kitchen and living space to the floating spotted gum staircase, there is little that impedes the focus on the stunning backdrop. Considered passive solar design allows light to stream into the internal living areas and also encourages the gentle sea breeze to cool the home. Two separate external living spaces allow the occupants to take full advantage of the winter sun on the front sundeck and enjoy respite from the summer sun on the rear alfresco space. Exposure-grade construction materials have been included due to the proximity of the harsh marine environment, and natural casuarina Decowood vertical cladding was chosen as a low maintenance alternative to natural timber.
The modern four-bedroom, four-bathroom layout includes a living and dining space as well as a study, all complemented by a designer kitchen with a butler’s pantry. The island bench includes spotted gum on the bar front with a featured dropped ceiling to match. Dekton Opera has been used for the benchtops and cooktop splashback, creating a sense of drama and opulence. Villeroy & Boch basins and toilets have been included in the bathrooms along with heated towel rails, backlit
mirrors and brushed nickel tapware. A Robert Gordon basin features in the powder room while the strategically situated bath in the master en suite captures the
ocean breeze and views. A 10,000-litre water tank that reticulates to the toilets and external taps, solar hot water booster and a 9.6-kilowatt photovoltaic system with Tesla battery assist with lessening the environmental impact of the home, along with double-glazed windows that have been used throughout. A large subfloor that includes a storage area and workshop also helps to keep the house cool by providing ventilation.
The landscape design considers the harsh marine environment through the utilisation of hardy native plant species, which were carefully selected to be low maintenance and drought tolerant. Natural stone and woodgrain concrete sleepers in conjunction with natural grasses have been utilised to soften the driveway pallet. To the rear of the home, naturally aging timber stairs and balustrade cascade down onto the sandy beach adjacent to the large pine tree, which provides shade in the
warmer months – the perfect location to enjoy this pristine location and laidback seaside atmosphere. This home was a recent winner at the 2022 Master Builders Association Excellence in Housing Awards in the 1.8 million–2 million Custom Home category, in addition to winning the Housing Industry Association Hunter Region Residential Interior Design Award and the HIA Hunter Region Custom Built Home Award in the 1.5 million–2 million category. One look at this gorgeous Gremmo Homes design and it’s not hard to see why the awards and accolades have flooded in.
