Gremmo Homes Project 6
From the design to the architectural detail and landscaping features, this award-winning home was built to leave a lasting impression. Gremmo Homes’ latest display home began with a simple concept; “Our objective was to create a contemporary design with a relaxed feel,” says owner Richard Gremmo.
The double-storey property has a substantial street presence, which is accentuated by two advanced native brachychiton ‘bottle’ trees, while the wide stairs provide a subtle transition from the footpath to the entry of the home.
The façade of the home incorporates organic, freeform stone, which is complemented with hardwood timber cladding to juxtapose the smooth rendered walls. Sleek, commercial glazing combines harmoniously with the understated landscape design, which suits the slope of the site, as well as its aesthetics.
Showcasing exceptional views of the magnificent pool and landscaped gardens, the central living room is the heart of the home. Featuring a fireplace and bar, the space is perfect for relaxation. The fireplace is framed by a stack-bond brickwork structure, which serves as the structural centrepiece of the home.
Infusions of timber and natural stone combine with muted wall tones to add warmth to the interior. The custom upholstery and layered textures and fabrics provide sophistication, while the subtle lighting configuration creates a tranquil ambience.
Sleek and modern, the minimalist-inspired kitchen features European appliances, as well as a butler’s pantry. Refined benchtop details combine with soft-close drawers and doors to enhance the contemporary appeal of the space, while a geometric splashback adds further texture to the design. Space-saving elements such as an integrated meals table were also incorporated into the kitchen.
Delivering the complete ‘Hollywood experience’, the dedicated home theatre showcases a range of luxury inclusions and is the perfect space in which to kick back and relax.
The luxury aesthetic continues throughout the main bedroom, which incorporates detailed joinery and understated lighting. Featuring large-format porcelain tiles and a frameless-glass shower screen, the en suite exudes sophistication.
The alfresco area was designed to take full advantage of Sydney’s wonderful climate. Featuring a teppanyaki barbecue, the outdoor kitchen is ideal for entertaining guests while they relax at the stunning dining table.
The rear of the home was designed to capture abundant light from the north. The pool’s design also increases the amount of light the home receives, and is the fulcrum of the backyard. Three outdoor living spaces provide smooth transitions between the home and the gardens to ensure the atmosphere of the entire property is relaxed and inviting.
With a passive solar design, ventilation features and photovoltaic power generation, the home limits its overall environmental impact. The property utilises recycled rainwater and drip-feeds the gardens to conserve water, while the strategic placement of skylights improves the quality of natural light.
Cohesive management and construction of the home, pool and landscape design ensured this project is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. In recognition of its innovative design, the home received a number of prestigious accolades at the 2018 Housing Industry Association (HIA)–CSR Australian Housing Awards, winning the People’s Choice Home of the Year and Outdoor Project of the Year. In addition, the display home won Display Home of the Year and Display Pool of the Year in the 2018 Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Construction Awards.
