Sowden Building Solutions as a company values comfort and long-term cost-efficient homes – having some of its latest projects built to the Passive House standard – while still maintaining stunning, cutting-edge design.

Taking an 1884 heritage home, Sowden Building Solutions renovated this property into a comfortable, modern interior with Japanese-style elements, while re-instating the original heritage front façade. Upgrading the original downstairs area into an open-plan living, and then adding a second storey to gain space for an extra bedroom with sensational city and harbour views was a stroke of genius.

With a beautiful Japanese-style wooden bathtub featured in the ‘wet room’, the space was elevated to capture an aura of zen and comfort. Features such as modern joinery, a Bora cooktop and Miele combination steam oven were added with a low embodied carbon footprint.

The Japanese-style was carried into the outdoor garden, creating a sanctuary of tranquillity, including seating inside for viewing built into the added modern joinery.
