REVIVING THE PAST

Sowden Building Solutions has raised the bar with its latest project, transforming a run-down 1900s home into a future-proof, modern residence built to the PassivHaus EnerPHit standard. The clients wanted a forever home with minimal maintenance, and Sowden Building Solutions delivered an energy-efficient, healthy living space.

To meet their needs for comfort, soundproofing and automation, the home has been designed to prioritise convenience. The house is airtight, with a 24/7 Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) system that provides fresh, filtered air throughout. The home’s design eliminates thermal bridges in the walls, floors and roof, preventing mould and ensuring proper insulation tailored to the local climate. Double-glazed windows further enhance the home’s energy efficiency and soundproofing, while solar panels and a battery system have been integrated for optimal energy use.

The home now features four bedrooms, a workshop that provides space for the client’s hobbies and an internal courtyard that offers a private retreat. The detailed joinery designed by The Homeologist and executed by JPC Joinery enhances every room, emphasising the attention to detail. Extensive on-site redesign work, including sustainable materials and structural updates, ensures the home meets the highest standards of modern, sustainable living.
